For reasons I don't understand, DNS abruptly quit working on my Mandrake 7.2
box. It was working earlier today, then I was trying to configure Samba and
it seemed to quit sometime around then. I don't believe I did anything
related to DNS, but it quit working.
I can ping by IP address all day, but if I attempt to ping by name it fails
unless static resolution is specified in my /etc/hosts. I'm reasonably
certain that the DNS servers are fine (both of them) because my windows
machines resolve just fine using the same DNS servers.
I looked in ummm, Drakconf I think it's called and under the name resolution
section it confirmed I was usings "hosts, dns". Reboots haven't seemed to
help.
I don't know where to start with this, any help is appreciated! Needless to
say, I'm kind of stuck until I get it working (in fact, I'm writing this
email from Windows :-( )
