AS ROOT:  If you use linuxconf you can easilly set eth0 to make use of dhcp.  Once this is done, reinitialize the network protocols (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network stop then /etc/rc.d/init.d/network start ).  The cable modem service's DHCP server should then automatically supply everything you need for accessing the internet:  IP, gateway, DNS server addresses, etc.

If you want to set up IP masquerading Mandrake 7.2 has a wonderful wizard (DrakGateway) that will walk you through it.  Just choose the defaults it provides and you should be fine!
