Another way is to use import from the ImageMagick suite, if you prefer to
use the command line.

    import filename.jpeg       (Note: jpeg not jpg)

Click left button twice in the window you wish to capture.
To capture a random area, depress left button, drag out a rectangle, and
release.  To capture whole of screen:

    import -window root whatever.jpeg
