[newbie] Lost my mouse

I have a Microsoft USB Intellimouse which was working really well until this
afternoon. All of a sudden it seems to have stopped working. While my
computer was booting I noticed that the USB modules were no longer being
loaded. Is there a way via command line that I can get those modules
working?
