Solved it! here's how to run ADOM on Linux Mandrake 7.2:
cp /usr/share/terminfo/x/xterm-color /usr/lib/terminfo/x/xterm-color
and optionally:
cp /usr/share/terminfo/x/xterm-color ~/.terminfo/x/xterm-color
