it didn't occure to me to check the mandrake site once i looked at the xfree site.

Adrian....according to the MandrakeSoft supported hardware

one of the listed Matrox cards is:

Mystique with 170 and 220 MHz integrated RAMDACs (both 
MGA1064SG and MGA1164SG)
