Beta 2, at this point, has it's advantages over beta 1. Me being able
to use cdrecord isn't one of them, unfortunately, but more on that
later.

If I had to pick a word, beautiful would be it - man, is this a pretty
GUI. And I use Blackbox! Blackbox or no, visual excitement runs amuk.

If I had to pick another word, it would be something along the lines
of arrrrggg&^*@^%%(*!!! as I am unable to get online (Optimum Online
cable modem). DHCP refuses to determine the correct IP info. This is a
drag - it would do it in its sleep in 7.2. I pray that this is just
because it's an early beta.

One nice improvement, my cheesy generic PS2 scroll mouse works, which
it didn't in 7.2. I'd missed that feature...Another notable item, the
install was _fast_, boy...clocked in at just over 40 minutes doing a
full expert install - though I didn't install the arcade features. I
suspect this is a stripped down LM, though, as my usual mail client,
pine, was not to be found; nor was my fav editor (kwrite).

One of my great hopes was that my CD-RW would work with the 2.4 kernel
- sadly, that does not seem to be the case, although I do have a nice
new coaster...I tried both the dummy write, which gave me this:

<--dummy write output start-->

<---dummy write output end-->

I also did an actual write using an mp3 file, which gave me the
aforementioned coaster. It wouldn't play in either windont or linux,
but in winbiteme, it did show up as being a disc that had been written
to, with 2.8 meg of info on it; you just couldn't access the info.
This is actually farther than I could get in 7.2, so who knows, maybe
I will be able to burn CD's without having to pop for a new one.

Did I mention how pretty this one is? Even LILO is looking good these
days...you can also bring up diskdrake, which makes me wonder if you
can resize the partitions...I don't remember being able to do this in
7.2, but then I never tried. I'm obviously going to have to reinstall
again eventually anyways, so maybe I'll hack up a partition just for
ha-ha's...

I'm sure there's more, but its late...

Hope beta3 comes out soon...
