NOT true. Many ISA internals will work (especially those w/jumpers). Some, though
few PCIs will work also. the only real requirement is that they be *hardware* based
modems (*real modems*) instead of some software based modem. Actually, the linmodem
project has already written compatible "drivers" for *some* software based modems.
The bottom line though is that you can't go wrong, *usually* with an external.
