Hi,

I recently did a clean mandrake 7.2 installation. No problems
there.

However, when I try to install a new/upgraded package via the rpm
command or via the gui interface the system seems to process the
rpm (ie. I hear lots of disk activity and see the steps if I
increase debugging/verbosity) but after a while the system
grinds to a halt - in terms of all user interface activity.

I still hear disk activity but cannot telnet in, or use the
GUI or any of the pseudo virtual terminals on the console.

Sometimes, after 2-3 hours the system comes back, other times
it does not come back at all and I have to do a hard reset.

The strange thing is, even if I do a hard reset, that the package
is installed.

The previous mandrake installations I have performed do
not exhibit these symptoms.

As I am unable to get into the machine to find out what is going
on I am a bit stumped.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what is going on?

Jason.
