You could also look for a hidden file in your user home directory called
.xsession-errors or something similar. I had to delete one of those a few
weeks back. There was also a rogue netscape process which had been
chuntering on in the background for some time. Deleting them freed up
several hundred megabytes immediately. .xsession-errors never reappeared.
You can use gtop or its KDE equivalent to look for suspicious background
processes, but be very careful about what you delete. You might want to
seek further advice.
