Does this happen only when using apps that print under KDE? Does it happen
when you use Gnome instead of KDE? Does it happen with other software such
as Abiword or Star Office that do their own print formatting?
I had this problem using KMail, KNode and Konqueror with Mandrake 7.2, but
upgrading to 8.0 (using beta 3 at present) fixed it. Well, actually it gave
me a slightly different problem, but one I can live it -- now I sometimes get
the upper half of a line at the bottom of a page, then KDE "backs up"
slightly and begins the next page with the lower half of the *previous* line.
This line-and-a-half overlap isn't quite as neat as I'd like, but then I
seldom need correspondence-quality printouts of e-mail or newsgroup posts and
I can live without KWite for now.
The problem is *probably* due to a bug in KDE's printing system, or at least
in its interaction with CUPS or other parts of the printing process. Until
the bug is properly fixed in a future release, I suggest you use Abiword or
Star Office when text quality is an issue, and upgrade to Mandrake 8.0 for
everything else; that way you'll get newer versions of everything -- kernel,
KDE, CUPS, and all the rest.
(Not that it should make a difference, but my Deskjet 932C is connected via
USB.)
