This error did originate in the "make install' phase. I found the error
to mean that there was no "/dev/hda9" specified after the "root=" in
"/etc/lilo.conf". Probably because I have a full reiserfs system but who
knows. I suspect that it is a known issue because if you read
"Documentation/Changes" in your new new kernel, it will tell you how to
compile it and it doesn't do it the way I did it. Their way will include
the commands I had with the exception that you will still have to do
some manual changes here and there.
