Ev....there are 3 samba rpms on the 7.0 installation CD.  
Make sure you have all 3 of them installed.  From the sound 
of it you don't have samba-client installed.  The 3 rpms are:

samba-2.0.6-1mdk.i586.rpm
samba-client-2.0.6-1mdk.i586.rpm
samba-common-2.0.6-1mdk.i586.rpm
