I'm also getting this problem.
When I boot the new kernel I get the follow
module! module! error net-fr-1
I imagine that it has something to do with the network.
I'v tried changing all the thing that could be changed with out success.
I'v gone throught the whole complie process.
Checked Lilo and so on but still with no success.
