Okay, I know this has been asked a million times, but here goes: How do I
get my SoundBlaster Live! Value card working in Mandrake 8? I've searched
the archives and numerous very helpful web pages, but there's got to be a
simpler, better way to get this working.
Running HardDrake (aka Mandrake Control Center 0.61) shows one soundcard
entry for "Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10000." Two entries were showing up
(one for the SB card and one for the onboard VIA chipset sound, but I've
since disabled the onboard sound in BIOS). The kernel module showing is
"snd-card-emu10k1" so that seems correct.
Oddly, I do hear the opening KDE "jingle" when KDE opens up on boot, but
absolutely nothing from then on in any app. When CDPlayer starts up, the
disc spins up, CDDB finds the album title and tracks, but no sound. (I know
the device works, 'cause that's how I burned the ISO's for LM8). :)
This is probably bad news: running sndconfig as su gets nothing but "
command not found."
Where do I start to track this puppy down? Thanks in advance. Part of the
problem that this newbie has run into on this is that there's so much
information on configuring sound cards that I'm not sure what the most
efficient order of tracking down the problem is.
Thanks in advance for helping me sort it all out.
