You don't mention how big the L2 cache is on the two processors. That can
make a huge difference. My 450MHz PIII laptop has a 256K L2 cache. A PII
with a 512K cache may well have a distinct speed advantage if it can keep
most or all of the Seti working set in its L2 cache.
Try "cat /proc/cpuinfo" on your two machines (well, on your Linux machine at
least).
