I do absolutely have ZERO problems using DSL with MDK 7.2 or 8.0. I am using
a Cisco DSL router with DHCP. All the configuration was done on the router.
My home LAN is a simple static IP LAN. The LAN side my router is 10.0.0.1 =
default gateway, and my 2 home Linux PCs are 10.0.0.50 and 10.0.0.51. I just
specify LAN connection with my DSL router as gateway and my ISP DNS server(s)
and 255.255.255.0 network mask. It works like a charm.
The only problem is with the DSL router that sometimes is unable to renew the
DHCP lease. Just turn it off and back on after a couple of minutes. I also
needed DSL tech support for the initial router configuration. At the
beginning they bitched that they do not support Linux and I needed to use
Hyperterm. Then my Linux-friendly ISP told me just to use minicom and
explained me how to set it up. I could also have used telnet 10.0.0.1, by
the way.
Then I called tech support again, and did not tell them I was running Linux.
When they told me to connect with Hyperterm I simply fired up minicom and
followed their instructions on router configuration.
Thinking about it, I should have told them that I was running Linux and
explained to them that I could perfectly do all that was necessary for the
router configuration.
Since then ZERO problems.
