[newbie] How difficult is Nautilus 1.0.4 to install ?

Hello,

        I'd like to upgrade Nautilus to the latest version (1.0.4), but I find
the installation instructions a little daunting. Has anyone had any
success with this upgrade ? Will a failed installation destabilize the
system ?
