[newbie] libc.so.6

I am trying to install some software and keep getting
errors.
It say's 
Dependency Problem
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by my software.

I looked at the list archives and found several people with the same
problem, but never seen an answer. Could someone please tell me how to
fix this problem.
