Well, is it USB or parallel (external and plugging into the computer) or mounted within
and attached to a SCSI Card? Or is it IDE?

IDE is attached by a 40 pin cable to a plug on the motherboard

SCSI is attached by a 50 pin cable (or 68 pin cable or 80 pin cable with adaptors)

Parallel attaches with 25 pin d-subminiature connector usually on the back of ths
computing box

USB uses little flat connectors and what looks a lot like telephone wire between them.

Unless we know how your ZIP is connected, it is unlikely that we can be of any help.

A SCSI zip might be a problem if you are using an Adaptec card. Right before release
of 8.0,
there was a new driver issued to accommodate firmware changes. The firmware is not
flashable on all adaptec cards, so the old driver is needed for some. If you have
that problem

put this in the next to last lines of /etc/rc.local

rmmod aic7xxx
modprobe aic7xxx_old

You can tell if you have an Adaptec (and tell us) by

lspci -vvv > transfile

then attaching transfile to your email here. If you page through it, you will see the
devices in use
on your motherboard and on the attached cards.
