Ignoring that, what parameters are you using? I have put: hdparm -A1 -c1 -d1 -m1 /dev/hda in my rc.d/rc.local file. By setting the read ahead and multiple sector count I upped mine by 5mb/sec. If you're the *brave* type, you might try it. -s
