I remember trying stuff with as little as 32 (hell, I started with 4) :( megs. You might get ok performance with 64, but if you're doing compiling or other intensive things (compiling some c++ stuff can take over 80 megs just for the compiler) adding more RAM is always a good thing to do. And, RAM prices have really come down - my 256 stick of CAS2 that I bought when I built my athlon box last march was about $89, and that was $30 more than a 128mb stick. Well worth the extra $, and now it's really coming down in price. But I always find myself adding more RAM sooner or later -- which often means that I have to take out some of my sticks and buy sticks with more capacity. Hopefully I won't have to do that again :). > may well be the _recommended_ amount in coming distros (just guessing) And as the distributions have been gravitating towards KDE and gnome, one needs quite a bit of RAM to run those advanced desktops well. > Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------ David E.
