for some reason...you might have installed it wrong
perhaps....
I would fully un-install it(star office)...and then re-install.

and unless...you wish to allow each single account on your machine
to use the one install, then I would install it ONLY in your 
\home\username directory...not in root.

I never had that problem...never heard of anyone else either...
so I assume you installed it, or mandrake wrong.
also make sure you update the menus accordingly...both system and users.
