First of all, you've got to set up NetBeui on your Windows box. Right
click your Network Neighborhood and select properties. Under the
Configuration Tab; [ADD], PROTOCOL, MICROSOFT, NETBEUI.

Then check your Identification Tab and verify the three fields.
Hit enter and prepare for a few reboots.

Run the DOS Console and type in NET CONFIG. Write down that info for
when you go on to set up Samba.
Now open up your Network Neighborhood and check back periodically as you
setup samba.

Setting up Samba... It would be helpful to do a few things first. Make
a backup of your original /etc/smb.conf . Then go to Mandrakeuser.Org's
address listed below for their quick tutorial. You might even use Webmin
to manage your Samba (https://localhost:10000). One thing to remember i
s to have your samba set for encrypted passwords.

The latter sections of that tutorial will also show you how to access
your Windows Machine's files from your linux box. You can even have it
automatically mounted as a folder.

Re: [newbie] Sharing files with windows 9x:

I sent this yesterday but it didn't seem to get through so here it is
again:

Hi,
I'm really new to linux and want to know how to set it up to share files
and printers with Windows 9x. (ie: so they can be seen through the
network neighbourhood button in windows) and also how I can see other
Windows shares on the network through Linux.

I am using Linux Mandrake 8

Thanks in Advance
Luke
