It might be worth mentioning to the gentleman struggling to unzip his tar,
that the one method which is guaranteed to work on all versions (well, since
6.5 where I first used it) is to use bunzip2 to firstly unzip the .bz2 file
to a flat tar file and then un-tar it.
Don't try to run before you can walk - break the problem down into little
stages and hunt for a command to get you to the next stage. That way you
become familiar with more commands, faster, and then you start finding the
shortcuts like having tar perform the filtering for you.
Remember, 'man -k <topic>' or 'apropos <topic>' are you greatest friends...

This of course, will only work in Mandrake 8.0 or later, not in the
7.x
series.
