I did a huge amount of reading on the Nforce just yesterday...
and I don't think it will be THAT much of an issue getting it running with
linux, although we may have a case of another binary driver from Nvidia,
similiar to the graphics detonator drivers...
They appear to be following the same path, one driver for all aspects for
all versions..
if they supply a linux version, it might be ok. And if they do supply one,
it will most likely be more efficient then anything the linux developers
could reverse engineer...
Its worth getting one if they do, from reading the tech reports, the results
may be as significant as 20% overall improvement in performance over other
chipsets... not to mention built in 6 speaker sound that beats the hell out
of a "creative live" 6 usb ports, GeoforceMX built in (upgradable via addin
cart to Geoforce3) amazing prefetch stuff. and hyperconnect technology from
AMD...
Most of the Nforce stuff (like the sound for example ("APU" or Audio
Processing Unit.)), is lifted straight from the work they did for the
Microsnot XboX,,,
it looks like it will be a killer combo, I certainly hope it works with
linux...

Subject: RE: [newbie] SiS 735 chipset/ecs k7s5a
Talking about SiS -- please tell me if anyone can solve my problem....
I have a laptop with the display SiS630. I installed Mdk 8.0, freq1, freq2
and freq3. None of them could recognize the display device. Whenever I used
to start X the screen would come divided in two where the bottom part of the
screen would somehow wrap around the top of the screen. I tried everything I
knew or could find on the web but to no success. Ultimately I used the code
vga=791 in the lilo.conf. That gave me a framebuffer mode (I think). BUT the
problem does not stop here. I could do everything once I log in X. But once
I log out of the X session - the text mode does not come back - no matter
what I try to do. I have tried switching with the virtual screens keys, etc.
but to no success. If I restart the X session by typing startx I do get the
X session back.
Moreover my soundcard is never detected too - thus I can never play sound on
my linux box.
Can anyone can please suggest something.
Regards
Navin

Based on what civileme wrote about the other sis chipsets being the most
linux friendly I would think that the sis 735 has a good chance at working
with Mandrake trouble free. Linux on the Nivida Nforce
http://www.tech-report.com/onearticle.x/2599 that could be
questionable......
