Hi Isaac,

I don't remember how to run X remotely, although it can
obviously be done. What I've been doing a lot, though,
is running individual X apps from my desktop (upstairs)
on my laptop (downstairs with the stereo and TV ;-)
Here's how you can do it:

1) On Speedy, run the telnet server.

2) On Eve, start KDE, Gnome, etc.

3) On Eve, type the following in a console:
   xhost +x.x.x.x
where x.x.x.x is the IP address of Speedy.

4) On Eve, telnet to Speedy in the same console.
It's easier to make an alias that combines the
   third and fourth steps.

5) While logged in to Speedy, type the following:
   DISPLAY=x.x.x.x:0
where x.x.x.x is the IP address of Eve. After the first
time you do this, it's unlikely you'll type anything else
that begins with a capital D, so a simple
   !D
   will suffice.

6) Run your favorite X app, and voila!, it'll appear on Eve.
Don't forget to use an ampersand when calling up apps,
so that you get the prompt back (and ability to run other
apps). For instance, when calling up Galeon, type this:
   galeon &

Hope this helps,
Miark
