Hi all,

Was Drakopt ever released for MDK 7.2????

I have looked on the CD, but it doesn't appear to be there...

Can it be rebuilt for 7.2? (since mdk8 can use 2.2.19, which is what I am
using, in theory, drakopt would work...)

I would like to get the full speed out of my new IBM 61.5 gig 7200rpm Hard
disk..

Here are my current results using 2.2.19-4 & reiserfs, MDK7.2, 128mb ram
(getting 256 or 512 next week) and a Duron 900 (getting a 1.4ghtz Athlon
next week) on a ABIT KT7a with the via 686 southbridge, (latest bios)
I was doing this from within KDE, so I don't know if that would make much
difference from console...

AVERAGE RESULTS:

Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 1.13 seconds = 113.27 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.72 seconds = 37.21 MB/sec

from what I have heard, 37.21 is pretty good yes?

Although I have seen higher cache reads on other drives....

What can I do to improve performance??? or is it not worth the effort to try
to improve results considering what they are??

The box is a web server(7 domains, and alot of perl scripts like shopping
carts), a masq box, small postfix email server (about 1500 mail a day) using
amavisd and content filtering for virus scanning of emails.
its also running a very modified pmfirewall, portsentry 1.1, Tripwire and
some other stuff.
I will be putting Snort on the network soon (I'm Paranoid), but that will
most likely be a seperate box...

So its a reasonably busy box, the more hdd performance the better....

regards

Frank
