My reading on Ext3 filesystem suggests that while it is less efficient than 
Reiser (especially for small files) it is totally backwards and forwards 
compatible. So an Ext2 partion can be converted to Ext3 simply by mounting it 
as Ext3, and an Ext3 partion can be mounted as Ext2. So for an existing Ext2 
user it is real simple to get the increased reliability of a journaling 
system.

New installs might benefit from a Reiser file system.
