Last week I downloaded about 10 gnome RPMs from
Ximian, including the gnome-core ximian file. Today I
decided that I would install them, but the message
that I got back from each attempt was that they were
already installed. So, I assumed that what I thought
was a download was actually a download-intall
combined. (I was glad that I had desided to download
the core program first.)

But I haven't seen any difference in any of the
programs, so I decided to try to find out what version
of gnome I was running, Ximian something or not. I
couldn't find anything like version on the gnome
desktop, so I decided to do a "locate ximian" and all
I found were the downloaded RPMs.

Ximian says that it is not necessary to first remove
existing gnome, but would that do it? And why does the
RPM installer fail with a message telling me that the
programs have already been installed? Same thing?
Can't distinguish gnome from ximian-gnome?

Help!
