    I used option 3.  I always get the src.rpm for an app like this. 
After fulfilling a few deps, I got pan-0.10.0 installed, working and 
used it quite a bit. Then I upgraded kdenetwork to 2.2.1 which fixes 
the date errors since 9/13 in Knode. Immediately bugs started showing 
up, to the point pan became unusable, ie, newsgroups no longer were 
displayed by their name, just a bunch of jibberish, mostly numbers.  I 
--force'd pan-0.9.6-2mdk back in and now all is well again.

  So, at least for me, installing 8.1 is gonna be the way to get pan 
upgraded ;>
