You don't use Earthlink, do you? For some reason before upgrading to 8.1 which also upgraded my KMail, I had to change my login for mail. It used to be in the format eln/username (which IS how the dialer is set). For some reason, though, I had to remove the eln from the user name in the account info in KMail.
