I don't think it has to be changed. You may want to ln -s /dev/hdb /dev/dvd
so that DVD-specific applications, which often look for DVDs at /dev/dvd, see DVDs using default settings. But I don't think there's anything you have to do. DVD drives are basically CD drives that can read DVDs. What exactly can't you do?
