Do you have the following package installed?
[root@quinipc download]# rpm -qa|grep usb
libusb0.1-0.1.3b-1mdk
Mine is a Canon Digital Ixus 300. It's detected by gtkam (it's got gphoto2's
libraries) with no probs...
