I recently installed Linux-Mandrake 8.1 on my system. For a Harry Homeowner
or a Joe Sixpack like me, I was glad the installer recognized all my devices
and installed properly without me having to fiddle with cryptic Unix
commands or logging to the dreaded console (which I don't know how to use).

I really like games, but I CAN'T RUN ARMAGETRON or TUX RACER. Whenever I
launch these games, I can see the hourglass for the initial runtime
processing of the game. The game then unexpectedly exits. I don't know why
it behaves this way. Please help!

Are there any documentation (html, readme.txt) or help files included with
these games? Where can I get these if none is included?

I run my KDE on X at a resolution of 1024x768. My graphics card is a SIS 530
running Xfree86 4.1 with 3D software acceleration (3D support deemed
experimental by Xfree, according to the installer, but I installed it
anyway, and it runs fine, except for the aforementioned games). The other
games run fine, but they run in a window that I am unable to resize. Can I
resize it?

Am I right in suspecting that KDE's use of memory is responsible for this?
What graphic interface would let me conserve the most memory for my games
(Window Maker?, Blackbox?)? I plan to install heavyweight games such as
Quake3, Unreal, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, and Red Alert 2: Yuri's revenge
on my machine. Any tips you can advise?

Here are my system specs.

AMD-K6+2-500
128MB RAM
SIS 530 on-board AGP 2x 8MB video RAM
ES-SOLO on-board sound card
20GB hardrive
Linux-Mandrake 8.1 Powerpack
KDE and Gnome @ 1024x768 resolution

Thanks,

Michael "Mike" Peligro
