I have just become a big fan of wvdial

my ISP has two different types of routers at their end, so a normal chat
script doesnt' always work.

So after much nashing of teeth, I downloaded the src rpm of wvdial and built
me a binary.

That thing is excellent, just give it a wvdial.conf file, which it writes
mostly by itself anyway, and all you have to add is your username, password
and the phone number of the ISP, and in my case, it has never failed..

my ISP sucks, and I often have to dial them several times with windows even
to get connected, wvdial gets it right every time..

love this program... I can't believe that its not the default dialer in
linux, why on earth use chat and fixed scripts when they have an intelligent
dialer that works flawlessly?

Dunno if this will help your problems, but when I was struggling to set up
GnomePPP I discovered an excellent tutorial on Eskimo.Net that solved
my problems. It's at
