does 1.0.tgz have an uninstall script in it? Its probably a source package, so you are not just installing or upgrading it, you are probably compilin and installing it..
is there a readme or install file in the tarball? you need to have a look at that, usually if there is a possible upgrade they will detail how to go about it in one of those files.. Its also possible that just compiling and installing the new one, will over write the old one.. so you may not have to do anything but compile/install the new one.. I don't like doing that unless its the recommended way because you could always be leaving old files in you new install, and that would annoy me endlessly. read the F*$&ing readme RTFR ???? :-) rgdsd Frank -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Mandrake Newbie Sent: Wednesday, 19 December 2001 10:16 AM To: Linux Mandrake Newbie Subject: [newbie] Upgrading .tgz package Hello my fellow Mandrake Users! =) How will I upgrade the installed package in .tgz format? For example, I installed a package-1.0.tgz in a certain directory and I want to upgrade what I installed with package-1.4.tgz. How will go about it? I am using Mandrake 8.1. Thanks in advance! Advance Merry Christmas to all of you! =) __________________________________ www.edsamail.com
