S is correct. Redmond doesn't have a monopoly on ergonomics or on quality,
and you are asking for the familiar, not the ideal. Things are the way they
are for a good and sufficient reason.... (I am surprised you didn't ask for
a virus checker, but that is one of the reasons; we don't even need one
because the system is designed to defeat such exploits)

Still keep thinking, and while you do, explore the desktops available (there
are 11 and they offer different feature/speed tradeoffs) and see that there
are many ways to skin a cat. When you tjink of a feature that would just be
great, like an automated backup and single-click restore on config files so
people can approach changing their systems without fear, then post and we
will be listening.

.exe won't cut it for a system with 3000 base packages each of which can and
does contain one or more programs and each of which may need to call other
programs. PeanutLinux is more what you are looking for, just 99Mb and only
one desktop, but even there you have rpms and dependencies because programs
are generally a compendium of small modules(which are standalone programs)
instead of a huge monolith that obfuscates almost everything and is very hard
to maintain.
