When requesting video recommends one should always give their budget.
You can get a decent vid card for under $50 up tp a cutting edge card for
$350+.

I concur with your assesment of Nvidia but Stongly disagree in regards to ATI.

I personally have 4 ATI card, 2 Xpert 2000 (Rage128 chip 16MB) available OEM for
around $35, a Radion 32MB DDR available retail for app $150, and a Radeon
64MB DDR w/VIVO available retail for app $200.

The Rage128 cards have been fully supported in X since 3.3.6 and in 8.1 with
with an 800 Duron I get 245 FPS.

With X 4.1.+ as shipped with 8.1 the Radeon is now fully supported.
On an 800 Duron the Radeon 32MB DDR gives 500+ FPS.
And on a 1000 TBird the Radeon 64 gives 600+ FSB.

All the cards run great in all versions of Win 98-XP and if you play DVDs
in Win all support hardware DVD playback and the ATI DVD player for Win
is the Best player I have ever used.
Its far outshines the HollywoodMagic decoder card and is as good as that
I get from a upperend JVC DVD player.

So my choice for vid card is ATI.
