I am installing PowerChute Plus, from APC, for my Back-UPS. When I run the
Configuration Tool, I am getting these messages:

Checking for binary compatibility...
binary compatibility VERIFIED

/dev/ttyS0 verified as a valid tty

The following Port validations for /dev/ttyS0 may take a few moments....
/dev/ttyS0 appears to be a local control port
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: Port must be configured for modem control in order to work with a
"Simple" Signaling UPS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Press Enter to continue

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: Could not communicate with device on /dev/ttyS0.
Check that the communications cable is attached properly to both the device
and the serial port.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Though the PowerChute Plus for UNIX installation is complete, if you
quit before verifying communications, the application may not work properly
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Back-UPS is reciveing a signal from the computer because the light is
flashing. I do not understand what the modem control is. If you can help
me, that would be great.
