When running vi in an xterm, select the text you want to copy with the
mouse, put the cursor where you want the text inserted, press "i" to go to
insert mode and press shift-insert or the middle mouse button (if you have
no middle mouse, use left and right at the same time).

To copy lines use 'yy'. "ESC"ape to command mode, put cursor on the line you
want to copy. Press 'yy'. (to copy 8 lines, type 8yy)

Place cursor where the text has to go and hit 'p'
Done.
