open office handles most msoffice files well. i personally have some trouble with odd tables in word docs from time to time but othere than that fairly well.
as for software, are you installing mandrake rpms? running kde? more info! -=-=-=-=-=-=- Running KDE and using RPS and sometimes GZ files which I cant seem to install at all. How do you uninstall something? This is OS is very daughnting at first.
