Hi Shanon, Here is the definition of the /opt directory, straight from the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard 2.2:
"/opt is reserved for the installation of add-on application software packages." If you are interested in learning about the Linux filesystem, the FHS document is a worthwhile read.
