Galeon is basically a GUI for Mozilla, with some features added. It is directly linked to mozilla, and cannot run without it. They are not interdependant, Galeon needs Mozilla, Mozilla does not require anything from Galeon.
You cannot upgrade one without the other. That's actually the reason I dropped Galeon altogether..too much fuss each time there was a new release. You will have to uninstall Galeon, upgrade Mozilla and then install the new Galeon..
