I am a little confused (SNAFU). Perhaps you are slightly off key here, perhaps i am.
If things are set up right shouldn't you point your mail client to "localhost.localdomain" as your incoming mail server. I suppose it may depend on the mail client. If i have missed something that will teach me for deleting half the thread before reading this.
