Here's a suggestion.

There should be an icon on the desktop called "Internet". Click this and it
should prompt you for the root password. Enter the root password and hit
"Ok". This should bring up the "Network Monitoring" window. There's a big
button that either says "Connect" or "Disconnect". If it says "Connect" then
click it and you should be ready to go.

If you are infact, connecting to your ISP, but then can't browse the net,
perhaps you need to edit /etc/resolv.con (has to be done as root):

search <your isp>
nameserver <dns#>
nameserver <dns#>

Those three lines, with the appropriate address and #'s should be all you
need once you're connected
