As root I copied a directory from an old hard drive to a new drive. The files are now owned by root, and I am unable to change the permissions to allow me to use them.
I read the man on chown, and looked at the suggestions in "Running Linux" and I've tried every permutation of 'chown' I can come up with and have had no success. I would like to change all the files (approximately 100 text files) at one time but would settle for doing them individually. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
