As root I copied a directory from an old hard drive to a new drive. The
files are now owned by root, and I am unable to change the permissions
to allow me to use them.

I read the man on chown, and looked at the suggestions in "Running
Linux" and I've tried every permutation of 'chown' I can come up with
and have had no success. I would like to change all the files
(approximately 100 text files) at one time but would settle for doing
them individually.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Jim
