My two cents. First, Gimp is a great alternative, but more importantly a great application on its own. I have for both Linux-Mandrake 8.0 and WindowsXP. Great application.
Game: Not all of us care to play them or have them on our machines. (note I am excluding simple ones like solitaire and etc.) Easy to install: I had no or very little difficulty with either Linux-Mandrake 8.0 or WindowsXP. Some troubles just involve ill prepared users. Occasionally, maybe some hardware issues which are, you guessed, hardware issues. Only the Mac is easier, but then again your paying a Mercedes premium for that kind of ease. As for the Cult Factor: I am on three user groups for Mac, XP, and Linux-Mandrake and I see nothing, but fanatics. Not all I should say, but very evident to some degree. You see fanatics for movies, games, platforms, sports, arts, music, and even foods. Met this nice guy who loves BSD and nothing but. If I mention Linux, I get earful of BSD over Linux. Occasionally, he will email me an image of his fanatic love of BSD. Last one was with the BSD devil mounting a surprised Tux. Can't please everyone.
