Hi,
        Been there, done that. I think that you might have been able to recover your 
installation with a little more info, tho.
        In any case, if you are about to do a fresh install, you might consider 
hanging tough for a little while longer....LM 8.2 is almost done and I hear 
it is really sweet. 
        If you think you might want to upgrade at a later date it might be wise to 
start with the latest now.
