The 1.4 Tbird is the hottest cpu AMD makes at 75 watts of heat
disipation. Mine is overclocked to 1.55, and Vcore increased to the
max, which probly increases heat disipation more than linearly.
Still I've had little problem keeping the cpu under 55C, even at
extended 100% load. Mostly it runs in the 40's

XP's <= 2100+ still use the .18 micron core, and won't run but
just a little cooler than the 1.4 Tbird. The 2200+ will be released
shortly and uses the .13 micron core (Thouroghbred) with reduced
Vcore, and should run much cooler.

'Bout the same here in south Texas in August, but that's
outside. My computer and me are inside where the A/C is on ;)

Mine does. IMO, any computer used every day should be left always
on. More true for Linux, so that cron jobs get run in the early
morning hours when you're sleeping.

Any AMD approved hs/fan will do, but you must move lot'sa air
thru the case. I'm usin an $8 CoolerMaster. If the hs comes with a
thermal pad, clean it off and use thermal grease instead. This is
very important.

IIRC, the heat disipation of that cpu core (Deschutes, P2-350
thru 450) was about 45 watts. I oc'd my P2-350 to 498, and it still
ran cool (~ 30C) under load.

Well, if ya can stand the wait and expense, get a XP 2200+.
Otherwise, I'd consider gettin an el cheapo Duron and usin that till
the 2200+ price and availability improves. Any Soyo board is a good
one ;)
